Beyond the Edge of the Sky by Crow Stannard

is a collection of biographical stories from
the life of Lt Gen Denis Earp,
former Chief of the SA Air Force 1984 – 1988.

This book includes memories of a fighter pilot who spent two years as a POW in the hands of the Chinese during the Korean War. It gives his personal accounts of those indescribably harrowing years – “the most trying period of my life” – and also beyond.
It allows us a glimpse of the personal experiences that helped to shape the man who later played a large role in the shaping of the SA Air Force - from his childhood diversions and youthful escapades, through years in active service, to his role as husband and father, innovative aviator and maverick Air Force leader. His ambitions; his hopes and frustrations; his delights and despairs.
These are tales that will appeal to those who have an appreciation of history. And they will resonate with those veterans who experienced the same horrendous ordeals as he did in the “Forgotten War” in Korea, or those who served with him in the “Unspoken-of” war in South West Africa and Angola.
